I received a request via our Facebook page for help in finding men’s size 5XLT shirts with extra long lengths.
One of the best places to find shirts in 5XLT with extra tall lengths is at JCPenney. Their extra-tall shirts have added length in long sleeves and short sleeves styles. All of them are button downs. Here’s a sample:
Client: 6’7″ tall man, Age 20 living in Pennsylvania.
Size: Pants – 30″ x 38″ inseam, Shirts – 16.5 x 38/39
Wants: 2 pairs of dress pants, 2 shirts with ties and a pair of jeans
Budget: $300-$500

Krista Responds: I recommend when you are interviewing for office type jobs, that you wear the actual outfit you would wear to your future job. That way your potential employer can see that you know how to dress appropriately. He/she may want to hire you on the spot as they can see you fitting in there.

To get the exact size you need, try a pair of custom made pants from Make Your Own Jeans. The office pants start at $50. I suggest for his age group, a flat front style with a mid-rise and regular hem (non-cuffed). A lightweight wool in a solid or pinstripe is nice in either a gray or black.

I hope I hit within your budget. You’ll have to pick and choose the items that will work for you. Good luck with the job hunt. The most important thing you can do, is stand up straight and tall as you will always look confident when you do. Remember that studies have shown that tall people make more money, so that alone will help you climb the ladder of success!
Total cost is around $68. One thing that note, when putting in your measurements, the sliding scale doesn’t let you put in 37″ sleeves, but if you go above where the numbers are, manually type it to add the correct measurements.
Overall, I think patterned shirts look more stylish than solid colored ones. You mentioned that you get most of your shirts from Lands’ End, JCPenney’s and Macy’s and I think for the money, you are shopping at some of the right stores. JCP – has the extra tall dress shirt options so that really helps with extra torso length too. I do know that you can find a wider choice from those stores by shopping online vs. the in-store selection.
You mentioned some the brands and jeans, but are feeling like they are too loose and baggy. I would suggest that you purchase straight leg jeans and pants. They are super stylish and flatter just about anyone.
