Travel Footwear for Tall Ladies Part 2

As I mentioned in my last post, I have a couple of trips coming up in the next several months that will require a lot of tromping around, not just on pavement but also on slippery cobblestones, up and down long flights of stairs, through field and forest.  I think you get the idea.  One of these trips is in the heat of summer, and I will need a comfortable walking sandal that will go the distance under a variety of terrain conditions.

Here are a few sandals that I am considering based on their great reviews:

Strappy sandal – (To size 11)

comfortable travel sandals

Mephisto Sandal (To size 13 and comes in variety of colors/patterns)

leopard flip flops

Aerosoles Flip Flops (To size 12)

I typically shy away from wearing my running shoes when traveling, but I do sometimes just want to wear socks and a lace-up shoe especially if it’s raining or if I’m in a crowded area where there’s the danger of my feet getting tromped on. The solution? Sneakers! The word on the street is that fashion sneakers are all the rage this year and this is one trend I definitely plan to follow.  You don’t need to limit yourself to only wearing them with pants or shorts. I’ve seen plenty of photos of very fashionable ladies wearing sneakers with skirts and dresses too.

Here are a few sneakers that have caught my eye:

women's floral sneakers

Floral Adidas – Up to size 11

bright red sneakers

Bright Red Sneakers (Also in navy and mint; Sizes 10-13, 15)

Classic New Balance Sneakers (Variety of colors; Up to size 12)

Travel Footwear for Tall Ladies: Boat Shoes and Ballet Flats

Do you have any upcoming vacations plans? I do and my trips will involve a lot of walking which means I’m on the lookout for comfortable size 11 walking shoes.  As tall women, we know all too well how difficult it can be to find any shoes in a larger size, let alone a specific type of shoe.

When I think of “comfort” shoes, the first word that comes to mind is not usually “stylish”. However, I’m pleasantly surprised that I have been able to find a couple of cute, comfortable shoes that have worked well for me in my travels.

Boat Shoes

Sperry Top-Sider boat shoes are great for traveling in unpredictable weather because they are water and stain resistant.  If you encounter a sudden pop-up shower or find yourself walking across some wet grass, your shoes will generally look just fine after they’ve dried.  I own a pair of the Sperry Angelfish boat shoes and have walked miles in them.  The footbed is well padded and supportive and the shoes feel very sturdy.  I love that Sperry boat shoes go up to a size 12 and come in a variety of fun designs. Here are a couple of pairs that caught my eye and are currently on sale:

Ballet Flats

Well-made ballet flats with a cushioned footbed are the perfect travel companion. I’ve had my Cole Haan ballet flats with the Nike Air technology for two years and recently walked over 4 miles in them in one day.  Even after 2 years, the shoes still look and feel great, so it seems they were a good investment.

Here is a pair of flats that are similar to mine, as well as a few other flats that have good reviews:

me too flats

Frye Flats to size 12, 10 colors

What I do not yet have in my walking shoe repertoire is a comfortable, supportive (and of course cute) pair of sandals.  I’m still hunting for those and will bring you my finds soon!  What shoes do you wear when you travel? Do you have a favorite “comfort” brand?
