Would You Take a Stand Against Bullying?

I just read the most amazing article. Jennifer McKendrick, a photographer came across some teen girls bullying other students on Facebook. She was scheduled to take their senior pictures, but cancelled it. Her response was “If you are ugly on the inside, I’m sorry but I won’t take your photos to make you look pretty on the outside … I simply don’t want to photograph ugly people.”

I absolutely love this! It takes guts to take a stand against bullying and I applaud Jennifer for doing so.

As a tall teen, I got my share of teasing and taunting mostly from short guys. During high school, one guy called my boyfriend “Paul Bunyan” and referred to me as “Babe” – the blue ox. At times, it took all of my self-control to not flatten this dork. Good thing I have a peaceable personality.

A lot of tall teen girls take a lot of ribbing because they look different and as most guys haven’t reached their full height yet. Emotionally, it can be pretty devastating when the teasing won’t stop or escalates.

I have seen kids that are being harassed totally flip out, withdraw from society and turn to destructive habits like drugs, alcohol and cutting. Please take a stand against bullying. It should never be tolerated!

I’d love to hear your thoughts on this topic and how you have handled bullying.

What do you think of "Ginormica"?

I went to see the movie “Monsters vs. Aliens”. Overall I thought it was pretty cute. For those who haven’t seen it, the premise is that Susan is hit by a meteor and is transformed into a giant woman called “Ginormica”. At first she detests her height, but then learns to tolerate it and then finally she grows to love it!
I think it’s a pretty good message for us tall women as most of us have gone through the same cycle. When I was a jr. high age, I hated being taller than everyone. In high school I learned to tolerate it and began to feel comfortable in my own skin. Now it seems the older I get, the less I care what people think about me. I have embraced my height by creating Tall Clothing Mall and I hope to inspire other tall teens and tall women to make the best of the assets they have inherited! If you have seen the movie, what did you think of Ginormica?
