Personal Shopping: Tall & Thin Interview Clothing

Client: 6’7″ tall man, Age 20 living in Pennsylvania.

Size: Pants – 30″ x 38″ inseam, Shirts – 16.5 x 38/39

Wants: 2 pairs of dress pants, 2 shirts with ties and a pair of jeans

Budget: $300-$500

Jamie is trying to help her nephew look professional for an interview. She is willing to purchase him some new clothes. Her nephew is hoping to get a job as a bank teller or something similar.

Krista Responds: I recommend when you are interviewing for office type jobs, that you wear the actual outfit you would wear to your future job. That way your potential employer can see that you know how to dress appropriately. He/she may want to hire you on the spot as they can see you fitting in there.

Stafford Broadcloth Wrinkle Free Extra Tall Dress Shirt in a 16.5 x 38-39″ sleeves. I like this striped option, but they also have solid colors too.

Silk Tie – in a black color to blend it in with the black pants. Black Leather Belt. Dockers oxfords – have good reviews.

To get the exact size you need, try a pair of custom made pants from Make Your Own Jeans. The office pants start at $50. I suggest for his age group, a flat front style with a mid-rise and regular hem (non-cuffed). A lightweight wool in a solid or pinstripe is nice in either a gray or black.

Ratio Clothing: Mens Custom Shirts – Nice Option for Tall Guys

I just came across Ratio Clothing, a company based in Denver, CO. They offer men’s custom shirts either online or you can schedule a fitting in their showroom. The prices start at $98, which isn’t bad for a custom made shirt. Choose from solids, plaids or stripes in a variety of fabrics.

In an interview in The Denver Post, the owner Eric Powell says, “I’m tall and fairly thin and have always had a terrible time finding clothes that fit. I’d tried custom clothing on a trip to Asia once, but the quality and choices left a lot to be desired. I had a background in technology and an interest in clothes from an early age, and I just felt like it was the kind of business I could tackle. While working fulltime for Deloitte, I started learning about shirtmaking and putting together the business bit-by-bit; building a website, sourcing fabrics, finding manufacturing, etc. Once the pieces of the puzzle were ready, I made the leap into the business fulltime. We started online, have shipped many thousands of shirts around the globe, been featured in Esquire and others, but didn’t have much of a presence here in our hometown. So, we decided to open a showroom.”
