Self Esteem Books for Tall People

Many tall people at one point or another in their life have suffered from some sort of self-esteem issues. I know as a tall girl, grade school and Jr. high were particularly difficult. One day in 6th grade a visitor came into the classroom. With my back turned toward him, he thought I was the teacher. I also received daily taunts from “short boys”. As I look back on it, the taunting was because the short boys were just as insecure about their height as I was about mine. Today I came across some books at Amazon that may help with self-esteem issues for tall people including children and adults.

The Tall Book

Michelle Obama: First Lady of Hope
When I sign off of my monthly newsletters I always say, “Thanks, and remember to stand tall.” What does this mean to me? Not only does it mean to stand up straight and be proud of who you are, but it also has another meaning. Take a stand, a conviction, be proud of who you are and what you believe in. This is the deeper meaning I feel when I say, “remember to stand tall.”

How to Appear Shorter

how to appear shorter

Lately, I have come across many online articles on ways to appear shorter. I personally don’t get it. Why not just accentuate the positive? But, for those of you tall people desperate to look shorter, here are my top 10 humorous suggestions that I found online of ways to make yourself appear shorter. Enjoy!

10. Mix light and dark shades. Pairing a dark shirt with light pants, or vice verse, will shorten your body. Avoid short shorts at all costs!

9. If you wear shirts that have stripes, wear them horizontally. Instead of looking taller, you will look more fat.

8. Kneel and strap your shoes to your knees. It’s a bit difficult to walk, but you will definitely look shorter.

7. Have Chuck Norris roundhouse kick your legs. You’ll lose like 6 inches off em.

6. Hmmm, maybe try hanging out with pro basketball players, they’ll make us look downright petite.

5. You might try looking in a trick mirror, bending your knees, trimming the bottoms of your feet, wearing horizontal striped shirts, or being persistent at sitting down.

4. To appear shorter, lower your pants down your waist so that they appear baggy around your ankles. Wear a long coat and let it hang open so that you seem less vertical. Carry bulky accessories and slouch your shoulders in.

3. A slouched stance will make you look shorter, not to mention insecure.

2. Make your surroundings bigger so you seem smaller. Buy large furniture, tall counter tops, use wide doorways, drive a truck and not a little car.

1. Just sit down.

How’s the weather up there?

The weather up here at 6’2″ is quite nice, I must say. I don’t mind being tall, at least now.

When I was younger it was a little rough. I was the tallest girl all through elementary school, and most of the time I was taller than any of the boys in my classes. In 4th grade, I was one of two girls on an all boys basketball team. I didn’t get to touch the ball even once in the games as the boys would not pass the ball to me.

Junior high was the worst, as I was so much taller than everyone, especially in the small town I was in. What an awkward time! I was so skinny and clumsy. My coach told me that I couldn’t jump higher than a cigarette paper. You grow 3 inches in a summer and see if you can even walk straight. I had no muscle tone at all.

I finally came into my own in high school. We had moved to a big city and suddenly there were lots of tall guys and some tall girls. That’s where I met my best friend Rhetta. At 6’2″, she was the same height as me, we had an instance kinship. She understood my tall woes and we went everywhere together. We even dated some twins for a while. Suddenly, my height was seen as elegant and sought after. I have been amazed at the difference in attitudes as I have gotten older.

I am now married to a tall man, and I can wear heels. I am quite popular in the grocery stores as many shorter women ask me to get the cans off the top shelf. I can see over a crowd at all times, and I don’t have to worry about drowning in the swimming pool. Being tall isn’t so bad, in fact I rather love it!

I hope you will enjoy Tall Clothing Mall and would love to have you connect with me.
